History of knowledge has emerged as a new and vital scholarly field in the last decade. In Lund, we have since 2014 been engaged in establishing the history of knowledge in Sweden and the rest of the Nordic countries. We conduct research, publish texts, discuss scholarship, give courses, attend conferences, organize workshops and cultivate contacts with the wider world – everything in order to develop the history of knowledge.

History of knowledge at Lund comprises a number of researchers and projects linked to the Department of History. Within the research environment, there is a significant theoretical, empirical, methodological and chronological breadth, but we are united in our common desire to explore the contents, forms and meanings of knowledge, both in society and in everyday life. A central forum is our seminar where we bring together scholars with different backgrounds and approaches.

The ambition is that our research environment should be characterized by creativity and broad-mindedness. We hope that we can promote intellectual curiosity and pluralism in terms of themes, frameworks, and periods of time. We are convinced that we have a lot to learn from other fields within the humanities and the social sciences that study knowledge. At the same time, we believe that perspectives and concepts deriving from the history of knowledge can enhance historical scholarship as a whole and enrich contemporary public discussions about knowledge.
