Andre Uhl’s work at the Institute on the Formation of Knowledge centers on critical media practices negotiating issues of cultural sovereignty in the post-anthropocentric age. Under IFK’s current two-year research theme, Knowledge in Diaspora, he conducts ethnographic fieldwork observing the emergence of Living Labs where place-based and traditional knowledges are repurposed as participatory expertise to empower community guardianship of digital environments. Through analysis of the cultural techniques that co-produce new ecologies of imagination and communication, the project explores the tension between digital divides and inclusion in open innovation politics, where decolonial movements and global techno-cultures can meet and miss.
